Gustafi

Gustafi are a Croatian folk-rock band from Vodnjan, a small town in Istria near Pula. They mix rock with Istrian folk music, blues and Tex-Mex, sing in the Chakavian dialect of Istria, and are counted among the leading names of the ča-val, the wave of Chakavian pop and rock that became popular in Croatia in the mid-1990s, alongside Alen Vitasović and Šajeta.

The band was founded in 1980 by Edi Maružin, Vlado Maružin, Čedomir Mošnja, Igor Arih and Livio Morosin, first under the name Gustaph i njegovi dobri duhovi (Gustaph and His Good Spirits). Their first concert, in Vodnjan on 27 December 1980, is still celebrated as the band's birthday. Their first album, V, came out in 1985.

In the 1990s they released Tutofato (1994), Zarad tebe (1995), Sentimiento muto (1997) and Vraćamo se odmah (1999). Na minimumu followed in 2002, the compilation The Gust Of in 2004 and the maxi single Tampon Vol. 1 in 2005. F.F. (2006) won the Porin for best rock album, and Chupacabra (2009), Kanibalkanska (2012) and Maneštra (2015) came after it.

Edi Maružin writes the songs, sings and plays guitar, and Čedomir Mošnja has been on drums since the start. Around them the line-up has grown into a small orchestra, with harmonica, trumpets, trombone, clarinet and saxophone; about forty musicians have played in Gustafi over the years, among them the singer Barbara Munjas.

Their hits include "Brkica", "Kega si sanjala", "Katarina", "Žminjka", "Kadi su ta vrata", "Kurijera", "Ja nisan stija mala", "Sedan dan", "Ča bin da", "Vrhi Ćićarije", "Jesen", "Znan da je zima" and "Sanjati ćemo žuto".
