About Plavka

Plavka Lonich, known simply as Plavka (Plavka Coleridge by marriage), is an American singer, songwriter, producer and DJ, best known as the voice of the German electronic duo Jam & Spoon in the 1990s. She is on Muzika-Balkan under Croatia because of her father: Wikipedia describes her as the daughter of a Peruvian mother and a Croatian father, and a Polish profile calls her an American with Croatian-Peruvian roots. She was born in San Jose, California, and today works in Los Angeles, where she has had a weekly DJ residency at the Skybar of the Mondrian Hotel and plays the city's underground raves.

She began in rock bands in California with her younger brother, the guitarist Yogi Lonich, who later played with Buckcherry and in Chris Cornell's live band. She took singing lessons from 1985, released her first single, "Chance Me", in 1988 and in 1989 sang soprano with the Santa Monica Opera. In 1990 she moved from Los Angeles to London and joined the Scottish band The Shamen, with whom she sang "Hyperreal", toured Europe and Asia as far as Moscow and Siberia, and recorded a John Peel session.

With the producers Caspar Pound and Peter Smith she then formed Rising High Collective, part of the Frankfurt techno scene, known for "Fever Called Love", "Reach" and "Feel the Fire". In 1993 she recorded "Right in the Night (Fall in Love with Music)" with Jam & Spoon. It became an international hit, with a gold disc in Germany and a platinum disc in Australia, and was followed by "Find Me (Odyssey to Anyoona)", "Angel (Ladadi O-Heyo)", "Kaleidoscope Skies", "Don't Call It Love" and, in 2004, "Butterfly Sign". For the 1997 album Kaleidoscope she wrote "Guiding Light", "Flame", "Moment Gone", "Garden of Eden" and "Kaleidoscope Skies". Her website mentions an MTV VMA nomination and more than 25 million streams of "Right in the Night".

Later she sang on dance records by Mistral, NUfrequency, Leonid Rudenko ("Love Story", 2009) and J Nitti ("Surrender", 2010), released the EP Underneath the Hollywood Sign and "Modern Tragedy" with the producer Zootrop in 2021, and since 2023 has put out a long run of her own tech and bass house tracks on her label Kool Kreatures, among them "Winking at Me", "Black Stiletto" and "All About That Bass", which reached number 11 in Beatport's bass house chart. She hosts a weekly show on Pure FM UK and still sings the Jam & Spoon hits at 1990s nights, such as the We Love 90's festival in Spain.

The playlist is her own selection of live and studio videos, from The Shamen and Jam & Spoon to her later songs.
