About Pasji kartel

Pasji kartel (Dog Cartel) was a Slovenian rap group and one of the first in Slovenia to release an album; they rapped in Slovenian, which is why they are on Muzika-Balkan. The crew's best-known member was the alpine skier Jure Košir, who was born in Jesenice and, according to the Slovenian Wikipedia, now lives in Ljubljana as a businessman.

Košir and his friend Matej Jovan discovered rap on cassettes swapped with American skiers, started writing lyrics and recording, and in 1994 released an album as Košir's Rap Team, named after its first song, "Včasih smučam hit, včasih pa počas". The group then renamed itself Pasji kartel and released two albums, Pesjansa (1996) and Kartelova teorija (1998).

Guests on Kartelova teorija included Boštjan Gorenc – Pižama, Ezy-G, Klemen Klemen and Vlado Kreslin, who are both on "Ker sovražnik ne spi". English Wikipedia credits Košir with doing much to popularise hip hop culture in Slovenia with this album, and he went on to help Klemen Klemen release his first CD, Trnowstajl, in 2000.

Košir never meant to become a full-time rapper; in a 2008 interview with RTV Slovenija he described music as a way to spend his free time creatively. Their tracks include "Pod pritiskom", "Poletna norost", "Naj prjatu", "Kadar pozabm" and "Poetična misija", gathered here in one playlist.
