Luka Basi

Luka Basi is a pop singer and songwriter, born Matej Prikeržnik on 8 October 1993 in Slovenj Gradec, Slovenia. He comes from Ravne na Koroškem and plays the guitar. His mother sang in a folk and entertainment ensemble, and at music school he learned the trumpet. Although he is Slovenian, most of his songs are sung in Croatian, and his biggest hits were made in Croatia, where audiences welcomed him.

Wider audiences first saw him in 2016 on the TV talent show Slovenija ima talent, where he appeared as Matej Prikeržnik and did not reach the semi-final. The producer Aleš Vovk (Raay) noticed him and offered to work with him, and within a short time he had become Luka Basi; later he took the name officially as Luka Basi Prikeržnik. Since childhood he had wanted to be a singer like Oliver Dragojević or Petar Grašo.

His breakthrough came the same year with "Nisam ja od jučer", a duet in Croatian with Jole, which reached number 32 on the Croatian chart. More duets followed: "Solo" with Lidija Bačić and "Moja" with the band Ljubavnici in 2017, and "Upalimo ljubav" with Lana Jurčević in 2018. He also sang on the Christmas song "White Christmas (Bel Božič)" with Maraaya & Friends. On his own he released "Seko moja", "Istrijanko ružo moja" and "U bijelom" in 2018.

In January 2019 "Sedam noći" was the most-played party song in Croatia, ahead of artists such as Jelena Rozga and Ivan Zak. In March 2019 "Ružo bila", his duet with the Croatian singer Marko Škugor, reached the top of the Croatian chart of party songs, something no Slovenian performer had done before. "Taxi" climbed to number 4 on the Croatian chart. His debut album, simply called Luka Basi, came out on Croatia Records on 5 July 2019, and that year he sang "Kad vidin Boga uživo" at the Split festival.

In 2023 Luka Basi released his first song in Slovenian, "Skrito v raju". In 2026 his song "Chicolo" reached the final of the San Marino Song Contest, and in June 2026 he sang the ballad "Za nas" at Melodije Jadrana in Split, the first Slovenian performer on that festival's stage. He performs across Slovenia and Croatia and has also played concerts in Austria. In July 2024 he married the Slovenian singer Nastja Gabor.
