Le Serpentine

Le Serpentine is an alternative rock band from Kranj in Slovenia, formed in 2012. The band is from Kranj and is still based there, which is why it is on Muzika-Balkan under Slovenia. It sings in Slovenian, with the odd song in English, and describes its sound as a mix of 1980s alternative, indie rock, dream pop and post-punk; a Slovenian music site also heard 1990s grunge in it.

The name comes from the Slovenian word serpentina, a winding mountain road, with "Le" added to make it sound French. The band writes, records and produces its own music: the guitarist Žiga Jokić writes the arrangements and lyrics and records and mixes the songs.

The debut album, Ujemi val, came out in September 2015 and was given away free online for a month. Its title song got a summer video in 2016, when 24ur described the band as an indie quartet that had played across Slovenia. The second album, Pobarvanka, was recorded at home in 2016 and 2017 and released in October 2019, with "Skalca", "JRM", "Črnobel", "Le naprej", "Friends", "Vrtiljak", "Majice kratke" and "Zadeta od interneta"; a keyboard player joined in 2018.

After the pandemic stopped most of their concerts, Le Serpentine entered EMA 2022, the Slovenian selection for Eurovision, with "Tud teb se lahk zgodi", written by Žiga Jokić. They sang it in the first semi-final in February 2022 but did not reach the final. Later singles include "Ostani" (2022), "Nov začetek" (2023) and "Tja v novi svet" (2026).

The line-up is Tjaša Teropšič on vocals, Žiga Jokić on guitar and vocals, Grga Jokić on bass, Anže Kern on drums and Matej Naglič on keyboards. The playlist gathers the band's videos from its own channel.
