About Kraljevi ulice

Kraljevi ulice (Kings of the Street) is a Croatian band founded in Zagreb in 1987, during the Universiade, by Miran Hadži Veljković and Zlatko Petrović Pajo. They made their name playing in the open air, on streets, squares and in parks, most often on Zagreb's main square, Trg bana Jelačića, and have since played in most of the big cities of Europe. Their repertoire is mainly starogradske, the old town songs, together with schlagers; modern pop is not their world.

The band has released some twenty albums, from Zagrebu s ljubavlju and Starogradske to Jednu morsku, Noć u Čardi, Ulicama kružim, Zemlja pleše and Zagreb Zagreb. In 1998 their "Kraj kapele svete Ane" was included on a UNESCO collection of traditional music from Croatia.

At Dora, the Croatian Eurovision selection, they came second twice, with "Kao san" in 2006 and "Pjesma za novčić" in 2007, and won in 2008 with "Romanca". They sang it at the Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade together with Ladislav Demeterffy, called 75 Cents after his age, then the oldest performer in the contest's history: fourth in their semi-final with 112 points, and 21st in the final with 44. "Romanca" was also recorded in Russian, and the band received Russia's Chanson of the Year award as one of the ten most played acts on Moscow's Radio Shanson. Demeterffy died in Zagreb on 19 November 2010.

The band also founded and organises many festivals in Zagreb and Croatia, among them Cest is d'Best, Ljeto na Štrosu, the Gradec summer cinema, FUZZ, DunavArt, Martin je u Zagrebu, Tkalčijana and Dani otvorenih butelja. Since 1987 they have appeared in most music programmes on Croatian radio and television and in about ten series, documentaries and feature films, and HRT has filmed their concerts at the Lisinski hall, the Gavella theatre and on Gradec, the last one in 2017 with the HRT tamburica orchestra. The playlist is their album Zemlja pleše, which opens with "Romanca".
