About Igra Staklenih Perli

Igra Staklenih Perli was a Yugoslav progressive and psychedelic rock band formed in Belgrade in 1976 by old school friends Zoran Lakić "Švaba" on keyboards, Vojkan Rakić on guitar and Predrag Vuković on percussion. They named themselves after Hermann Hesse's novel The Glass Bead Game and took their cues from early Pink Floyd, Can, Tangerine Dream, Hawkwind and Jimi Hendrix. They first went on stage after bassist and singer Draško "Drak" Nikodijević joined.

Free concerts at Belgrade's Students' Cultural Center and in New Belgrade's Block 45 gave them a cult following and a contract with PGP RTB. Their self-titled debut, recorded in August 1978, had "Gušterov trg", "Solarni modus", "Putovanje u plavo", "Pečurka", a tribute to Can, and "Majestetski kraj". Most lyrics were in English, and the band called its sound "the music of the stream of consciousness". Disc jockey Goran Cvetić ran their light and film shows, and his tape of a concert later became the live album Soft Explosion Live.

Slobodan Trbojević replaced Nikodijević on bass for the second album, Vrt svetlosti (1980), five fantasy and science fiction pieces such as "Igrač", "Čarobnjaci" and "Sanjaš", with singer Dragana Šarić, later known as Bebi Dol. Guitarist Ivan Pajević then replaced Rakić and Nikodijević returned. Guests over the years included Zoran Zagorčić of Električni orgazam and Ivica Vdović Vd of Šarlo Akrobata. Their last concert was at Sava Centar in 1985.

A German label released three LPs of their recordings in 1991, and both studio albums were remastered in 2007. In 2011 the band reunited for two concerts in Belgrade, after which Nikodijević and Vuković continued as Igra Staklenih Perli The Next Generation and released Apokaliptus in 2012, produced by Koja of Disciplina kičme. Vojkan Rakić died in Belgrade in 2019 and Draško Nikodijević in 2021. The playlist gathers their songs and both albums.
