About Gjon's Tears

Gjon's Tears is the stage name of Gjon Muharremaj, a Swiss singer and songwriter born on 29 June 1998 in Saanen, in the canton of Bern. His father, Hysni, is a Kosovo Albanian from Gjinoc in the municipality of Suharekë, and his mother, Elda, is Albanian from Tirana. His father's roots are why he is counted here among the artists of Kosovo; through his mother he may just as well be counted as Albanian.

He grew up in Broc, where the family moved in 2000. He discovered his love of music in music class at seven, and two years later he earned his stage name when his singing of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love" moved his grandfather to tears. At 12 he finished third in the first season of Albanians Got Talent, and a year later he reached the semi-final of Die grössten Schweizer Talente.

In 2018 he formed the band Gjon's Tears and the Weeping Willows. In 2019 he reached the semi-finals of the French show The Voice: la plus belle voix in Mika's team, and that summer the band played Swiss festivals including the Montreux Jazz Festival.

In March 2020 the Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR chose him to represent Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest with "Répondez-moi", but the contest was cancelled because of the pandemic. He returned in 2021 with "Tout l'univers", which won its semi-final, won the jury vote in the final and finished third overall with 432 points, then Switzerland's best placing since 1993. The song also won the Composer Award of the Marcel Bezençon Awards, and in November 2021 he was named Best Swiss Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

He later took part in The Voice All Stars France, sat on the jury of France's 2022 Eurovision selection and released "Pure" in October 2022, with a video featuring Geraldine Chaplin. His debut album, The Game, came out on 28 April 2023. In 2025 he sang "Répondez-moi" and "Tout l'univers" in the interval acts of the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel.
