Frenkie

Frenkie, born Adnan Hamidović on 31 May 1982 in Bijeljina, is one of the best-known rappers of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He lived in Bijeljina until 1992, when his family moved to Nuremberg in Germany. There he found hip hop and graffiti and wrote his first lyrics in German. In 1998 he came back to Bosnia and settled in Tuzla.

In 1999 he met Emir and Erol, the hosts of the FM Jam show on Radio Kameleon, where his first demos were recorded; FMJam later became his label. The same year he joined the newly formed Tuzla crew Disciplinska komisija, with Edo Maajka and others, and he toured with Edo Maajka as his second vocalist.

His first album, Odličan CD, came out in 2005 on Menart and FMJam, with the singles "Raise" and "Bruce Lee Rap". That year he won the Zlatna kugla for best new artist and, with Edo Maajka, the Davorin award for best vocal collaboration for "Hajmo ih rušit". Povratak Cigana (2007) brought "Povratak cigana", "Ja ne znam" and "Prepoznaj", and Protuotrov (2009), the album in the playlist here, "Tebi" with Damir Imamović, "Haj to" and "Živili" with the American rapper Masta Ace.

Troyanac followed in 2012, and in 2013 he won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Adria Act. With the producer Billain he made the EP #DNA, and with the rapper Kontra and the producer Indigo the albums Putanja (2016) and 20/20 (2019), the latter recorded in Los Angeles. Egzil came out in 2017 on Universal Music, Stari Frenkie in 2021 and Manifest in 2024, a return to hip hop after a detour into reggae.

His life has also been told outside music: in the documentaries Who the Fuck is Frenkie (2009) and Soul Train (2015), and in the biographical book Koraci, presented in Zenica in 2019. He has also published a book of his graffiti, Lack - Made in Bosnia.
