About Edo Maajka

Edo Maajka, born Edin Osmić on 22 December 1978 in Brčko, is a Bosnian rapper, songwriter and producer and one of the best-known hip hop artists of the former Yugoslavia. He grew up in Brčko, and when the war began in 1992 he moved to Zagreb, where he finished secondary school. He has lived and worked there ever since.

He got into hip hop as a teenager, started battling at fifteen and made his first demos over beatboxed rhythms. Back in Bosnia to study in Tuzla, he became one of the two MCs of the group Diskord, later Odbrana, whose demos were played on Bosnian radio. He then formed Disciplinska komisija with Frenkie and others, and in Zagreb his tracks "Minimalni rizik" and "Mahir i Alma" became hits on Radio 101.

His debut album, Slušaj mater, came out in 2002 on Menart and FMJam, led by the singles "Znaš me", "Jesmo l' sami" and "Prikaze". It made him Porin's newcomer of the year in 2003. No sikiriki (2004) won the Porin for best urban album, and its "Pržiiii" took the video award; "Ne-mo-žeš" with Frenkie and "Obećana riječ" with Dado Topić followed. On Stig'o ćumur (2006) were "To mora da je ljubav" with Remi and "Bomba", which was used in the American series Sleeper Cell in 2007.

Later albums were Balkansko a naše (2008), Štrajk mozga (2012), with "Panika", "Facebook" and "Imaš li ti šta para", Put u plus (2018) and Moćno (2022). He has worked with Hladno Pivo, Arsen Dedić, TBF and many others, wrote the music for the film Ljeto u zlatnoj dolini and a rap musical for the theatre in Tuzla, and voiced Sid in the local dubs of four Ice Age films.

His lyrics are known for sharp social commentary and humour. In 2026 he released I Like to Dance, new versions of his songs with the HRT Jazz Orchestra. He also won Davorin and Zlatna Koogla awards and was nominated twice for the MTV Europe Music Award for best Adriatic act.
