About Frajkinclari

Frajkinclari (Ansambel Frajkinclari) are a Slovenian folk ensemble from Maribor, founded in 1995 and playing narodnozabavna music, the popular Slovenian folk style. Their music is acoustic, their lyrics heartfelt or humorous, and they have played in the same line-up from the start. The members write almost all of their songs and arrangements themselves, and their recognisable, original sound brought them wide success.

Miran Waldhütter plays the chromatic accordion and writes most of the melodies, while Dušan Waldhütter plays guitar and writes most of the lyrics. Ivan Finžgar is on double bass and Srečko Zorko sings and also plays the diatonic accordion; Bojan Peter sometimes joins them on drums. The four go by the nicknames Duc, Hitri, Jež and Anzloh.

The festival prizes came quickly. In 1996 they won the award for the best trio at Števerjan, the audience award at Ptuj, and at Cerkvenjak both the audience award and the prize for the best arrangement of a folk song. In 1997 they took the bronze dragon and the jury's second prize at Vurberk, and at Ptuj the audience award, the jury's first prize and the golden Orpheus, as well as awards for the best song at the Festival narečnih popevk. In 1998 "Kdor je srečen, je lep" was named the best polka at Slovenska polka in valček, in 2000 they were the best ensemble at Števerjan, and in 2001 "Naša fara" won the jury award at the Festival narečnih popevk.

Their first album, with the long title Samci res da plačujemo svojo svobodo drago, a kdaj je bila svoboda poceni, came out in 1997. The second, Srčna napaka (2000), was their biggest success: the cassette went platinum with more than 15,000 copies sold. Its title song shocked some listeners with its provocative lyrics and became one of their best-known songs. Also in 2000 they recorded "Oda gudeki" with Mi2, a hit that also appeared on that band's album Album leta. Naša fara followed in 2002 and Pa je le fajn! in 2007.

Their other big hits include "Kaj si moreš, dragi človek" and "Šmarnica je večna".
