About Mi2
Mi2 are a Slovenian rock band from Rogatec, founded in 1995. They belong to the Slovenian tradition of humorous rock started by Buldožer and carried on by bands such as Zmelkoow, and over three decades they have played well over a thousand concerts.
The band was started by Jernej "Dimek" Dirnbek and Robert "Fiki" Firer. At first the two performed as a duo at variety events and on radio and TV shows, then briefly used the Kranj band Apeiron as backing. Egon Herman - Srajca, who had played guitar in the studio and written music for them from the start, then came in with Vojko Hlupić on bass and Vanja Janež on drums. That line-up toured Slovenia for a good year and in 1998 played Rock Otočec for the first time.
When Fiki left in 1998 the line-up fell apart, and Egon and Jernej persuaded Tone Kregar - Tonč to sing and Robert Novak - Flika to play bass. Matjaž Sabolek - Tiža drummed for half a year before Igor Peter Orač - Mali took over. From then on Mi2 has been a band of equal members, writing together and heading firmly into rock.
Their studio albums are Črtica, Čudo tehnike, Album leta (2000), Dečki s Sotle (2002), Dobrodošli na dvor (2006), Rokenrol (2010), Decibeli (2012), Čista jeba (2014) and Črno na belem (2021), with the live albums Decibeli (2010), Tisoči koncert (2023) and Akustično - Cankarjev dom (2026). Songs such as "Zbudi me za 1. maj", "Hči vaškega učitelja", "Odhajaš", "Pojdi z menoj v toplice", "Moja teta Estera", "Štajersko nebo", "Sladka kot med" and "Brigita (z Ulice Maršala Tita)" became concert staples.
Mi2 have also put out a book of poems, Mi2 pišema poezije (2002), a biography by Mohor Hudej and a songbook illustrated by Bori Zupančič (both 2010), and in 2015 Rudi Uran's documentary Kdo = Mi2 told their story. That year they sold out Ljubljana's Hala Tivoli for their twentieth anniversary.
In December 2017 they shared the Stožice stage with Dan D, and Dirnbek and Kregar had already sung on Dan D's "Kozlam" as part of the one-off Ljudska fronta.
