About Edita Abdieski

Edita Abdieski is a Swiss pop and soul singer, born on 14 November 1984 in Bern, who won the first German season of The X Factor in 2010. Her mother is a Montenegrin Albanian and her father, who died of cancer in 1992, was an Albanian from North Macedonia, so she may just as well be counted as Albanian or Swiss; it is through her mother that she is listed among Montenegro's artists here. The eldest of four children, she grew up in Bümpliz-Oberbottigen in Bern.

She joined her first school band at eleven and started writing songs at thirteen. After training as an office worker she enrolled at the Swiss Musical Academy in Bern in 2002, at times working four side jobs to pay for it. With her school friend Vanessa Tancredi she formed the duo Vanessædita, which sang in Swiss German: their album Z'Debü came out in March 2006 and the single "Wenn ig nume wüsst" reached the Swiss top fifty, but the duo split in 2007, and she later said that dialect singing was not her thing. In the same years she sang backing vocals for the band Lunik, sang and co-wrote "Don't Leave Me" for Santiago Cortés, a number 40 hit in Switzerland, and played the lead role of Kimberly in Dance Me! The Streetdance Musical.

In The X Factor she auditioned with Joss Stone's "Tell Me 'Bout It" and was mentored by Till Brönner. She won the final on 9 November 2010 with 74.10 percent of the vote and a record deal with Sony Music. Her winner's single, "I've Come to Life", reached number 9 in Germany and number 8 in Switzerland, and her debut album, One, recorded in November and December 2010 and released in 2011, went to number 10 in Switzerland and 32 in Germany. Its second single, "The Key", was written by Jörgen Elofsson, and in 2011 she also sang "The Best Thing About Me Is You" with Ricky Martin. She won the Diva Award as Talent of the Year 2010 and was nominated for the Prix Walo as newcomer.

In June 2011 she toured clubs in four German and two Swiss cities, already singing her own new songs "Done With You" and "Really Love Me". She then left Sony for a smaller label, released "Done With You" as a single in 2013 and returned in 2017 with "Fall Into Black" and the album On & On. She lives and works in Cologne, sings with the funk and soul cover band GrooveClubBand, and in 2024 appeared in SAT.1's "Hast du Töne?" with the studio band Tönlein Brillant.
