About Duško Kuliš
Duško Kuliš is a Croatian folk singer, songwriter and pianist from Bosnia and Herzegovina, born on 7 February 1960 in Kreševo. He inherited an accordion from his older brother Dragan and played at school events, and in eighth grade he played his first New Year's Eve at a local hotel. At the gymnasium in Kiseljak he played keyboards in the band Feniksi and began writing songs, and his friendship with Sejo Pitić drew him to folk, starogradska and romance songs.
While studying German at the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo he auditioned for Radio Television Sarajevo, through his brother, who played in its folk orchestra, and recorded some twenty songs for its archive. He met Haris Džinović and Blagoje Košanin there. At the Ilidža festival he debuted with "Sreli smo se kad lišće zažuti" and won the debutant of the year award and the jury prize. A year later he sang Džinović's "Ti meni lažeš sve", which made him a star and brought a contract with Jugoton.
His first album, Nisu moje godine za tebe, came out in 1983, followed on Jugoton by Priđi mi bliže (1985), Nemirna ljubav (1987), with his own "Suzo moja, Suzana", named song of the year, Kako ću bez tebe (1988) and Ako jednom poželiš da odeš (1990). He toured the whole of Yugoslavia, often with Halid Bešlić, and Toma Zdravković invited him as the only guest of his last television show.
He later settled in Split. With arranger Ivo Lesić he made Imaš li dušu (1999), and his Megamix records for Croatia Records from 2000 set sales records. "Još mi nije četrdeseta", written the night before his fortieth birthday, became one of his biggest hits. Otkopčano-zakopčano (2005) and Eto pitaj pola grada (2008) followed on Croatia Records, and Nije srce na prodaju (2009), Na Dunavu (2013) and Moja jesen i njeno proljeće (2018) on BN Music.
He has written or co-written about 200 songs for himself and others and runs his own production company. In 2018 he gave a solo concert in Sarajevo with the BHRT orchestra, and he has sung "O sole mio" with Dubioza Kolektiv at the Pula Arena.
