About David Amaro
David Amaro, born David Dekić on 3 August 1993 in Jesenice, Slovenia, is a pop singer, composer and lyricist of Bosnian origin. He grew up in Bled, in the Gorenjska region, and started his career in Slovenia, but in recent years most of his songs and television work have been in Croatia and the wider region.
He first stood out at twelve, finishing third in the audience vote at the Prvi glasek Gorenjske contest in 2005. The same year he came second on the TV Paprika show Veseli mikrofon, hosted by Tanja Žagar, where Miki Šarac of Gong Records noticed him and became his manager and producer. For seven years he recorded for Gong as David Grom, with videos for "Ta ljubezen" (2006), "Veš, da mislim nate" (2009) and "Za vedno" (2011) and the album Veš, da mislim nate (2011); Tanja Žagar wrote most of his lyrics and he was a regular guest at her concerts. He won the FeNS festival twice, as a child in 2006 and as a teenager in 2009, reached the final of Ohridski trubaduri in 2009 with a song in Macedonian, and represented Slovenia at Slavianski Bazaar in Belarus in 2012. He also played Friedrich in The Sound of Music at Prešernovo gledališče in Kranj.
At 19 he moved to Manchester. The name David Grom belonged to his label, so he became David Amaro, after an Instagram filter, wanting a name the English could say easily. There he studied singing, worked as a backing vocalist and sang in the gospel choir Manchester Inspirational Voices, which won the BBC's Gospel Choir of the Year in 2016; with the choir he backed Take That on their arena tour.
In autumn 2019 he was a finalist of the fifth season of Znan obraz ima svoj glas, where his turn as Ceca was much talked about, and that October he released his first single as David Amaro, "Free Minds". Songs such as "Repriza", "Raj" and "Krenula priča" followed in 2020. At EMA 2022, the Slovenian selection for Eurovision, he sang "Še vedno si lepa", written by Goran Šarac and Rok Lunaček; it reached the final, which LPS won.
In 2023 David Amaro sang on the Croatian show Superstar, and in spring 2026 he came third in the final of the tenth season of the Croatian Tvoje lice zvuči poznato. His recent songs include "Možda nam i Bog zavidi" (2024), "Princ" (2025), a cover of Oliver Dragojević's "Bez tebe" with Milena Vasić, "Hana" and "Zbog tebe". On 18 July 2026 he won the gold pearl at the Biser Jadrana festival in Tivat with "Sine, javi se", and he then entered the Serbian show Zvezde Granda, passing the first round with all seven jury votes for his versions of Korni Grupa's "Etida" and Zdravko Čolić's "Čija je ono zvijezda".
