About Christiana Uikiza

Christiana Uikiza is a singer and songwriter of jazz, soul and pop who lives and works in Vienna. She is on the site because she belongs to the Croatian minority in Romania: the Croatian Wikipedia calls her a Croatian singer-songwriter from that minority, and the Austrian music database mica describes her as Romanian-born and a Viennese by choice.

She finished the pedagogical secondary school in Timișoara and took a job as a teacher, but gave it up after a single day and chose music instead. She then studied journalism at the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb before returning to Vienna, where she went on with her music studies and stayed. For ten years she was the singer of Pax, a popular band of the Burgenland Croats in Austria, and she has worked as a freelance musician since 2003. She speaks six languages and sings in fifteen.

Her first album under her own name, This Time It's Different, came out in 2008. From 2011 to 2013 she sang with the group Grooveheadz, who released Haide, Haide, Hai! in 2011, and in 2012 she followed with How to Get, an album of her own songs and jazz standards. Reviewing it, mica praised her strong, emotional and varied singing and wrote that stylistic borders have always been foreign to her: her songs mix jazz, pop, soul, blues, fado, folk and chanson.

Along the way she has worked with Tom Jones, Kevin Mahogany, David Sanborn, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dominic Miller and Herbie Hancock, and she is a regular at the Vienna Opera Ball, where she sang for the seventh time in 2025. The playlist gathers her live performances, from Jazz Fest Wien to her opening set for Tom Jones.
