About Višnja Korbar
Višnja Korbar was a Croatian singer of popular music, born on 21 January 1942 in Krapina, in Hrvatsko zagorje. She grew up in nearby Pregrada, which is why she is filed under Croatia here. She died on 31 March 2022 in Zagreb, at the age of 80.
In the 1960s and 1970s she was one of the most popular singers of Croatian zabavna glazba. She sang at the festivals of Opatija, Split, Zagreb and Krapina, at the Slavonian festival and at many others across the former Yugoslavia, and she was often heard on radio and television. Her range was wide: schlager and chanson, Slavonian, Kajkavian and Dalmatian songs, and jazz, including her own versions of songs by Cole Porter, Harold Arlen and George Gershwin.
The Festival of Kajkavian Songs in Krapina, her home town, was especially hers. She sang there from its very first year and performed some forty songs on its stage. At the Opatija festival of 1970 she sang Miljenko Prohaska's "Zbog jedne melodije davne", alternating with Zdenka Kovačiček. Among the composers she worked with were Alfi Kabiljo, Krešimir Herceg, Ljubo Kuntarić, Vilibald Čaklec, Ivica Stamać and Zvonko Špišić.
She recorded for Jugoton, PGP RTB, Diskos, RTV Ljubljana and Orfej. Her albums include an LP with the light orchestra of RTV Ljubljana in 1974, Pri veseloj Zagorki with Zagrebački pajdaši in 1984, Listam albume with the HRT Tamburica Orchestra in 1997, 18 pjesama in 2004 and the double CD Zlatna kolekcija on Croatia Records in 2012.
She was decorated with the Order of Danica Hrvatska with the face of Marko Marulić and received a special Status award in 2011. The playlist gathers more than two hundred of her recordings, from "Pozdrav Zagrebu" and "Rođena vu Krapini" to "Lojtrica" and "Summertime".
