Tatjana Mihelj

Tatjana Mihelj is a Slovenian pop singer from Nova Gorica, on the Italian border, born on 22 July 1973. Nova Gorica is her home town and the base of her career, which is why she is on Muzika-Balkan, and in 2022 the town honoured her with the Bevkova listina for more than thirty years of work in music. She sings in Slovenian, Italian and English.

She learned the piano at music school and as a teenager sang and played keyboards in several bands. In 1993 she won the local festival Prvi glas Primorske, chosen first by both the jury and the audience, with "Ostani tu še to noč". For the next three years she sang with Ansambel Vrtnica, a folk-pop band that toured Canada, Germany, Switzerland and Italy and won the jury's first prize at the Števerjan festival in 1995.

On her own she worked with Oto Pestner, sang "Svet v znamenju srca" in the 1999 Slovenska popevka pre-selection and "Dlan okrog srca" at EMA 1999. She trained her voice with Darja Švajger and studied jazz singing at the Secondary School of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana. In 2015 she sang "Reka", a song by Vlado Kreslin, at the Mittelfest in Cividale, Italy, and in 2018 she reached the final of the TV show Nova zvezda Slovenije.

Her songs for the Dallas label, "Mlade oči" (2018), "Sivo mesto" (2019) and "Zakaj" (2020), were picked as songs of the week by Radio Koper. In 2021 she won Melodije morja in sonca with "Ples v dežju", taking the grand prize and the jury awards for best music, best lyrics and best performance. The EPs Cliché (2023) and Brez strahu (2024) followed, and "Žarim" topped Radio Tomi's Slovenian chart in 2024; she also recorded "Reborn" and the Italian "Ripartirò da qui" and "Senza", her 2025 festival song. The playlist gathers Tatjana Mihelj's recordings.
