Superhiks

Superhiks is a ska-punk and reggae band from Skopje, formed in 1993 by three high school friends, with Petar Mladenovski on bass and vocals. The band counts 3 March 1994, its first gig as a trio at the Skopje club Doors, as its official birthday. The name comes from Superhik, the villain of the comic Alan Ford who steals from the poor to give to the rich.

They began with melodic punk and hardcore, then added a three-piece brass section and percussion, and the sound grew to take in Latin, jazz, swing and Balkan music. After a demo cassette, Jodle (1995), and the EP Muzika za veseli i tažni (1999), the debut album Čekaj be vikam, kade be malku... came out on Lithium Records. Its third single, "Rade", was shown on MTV France and MTV Israel, and Superhiks became the first Macedonian band to reach the top of the MTV Adria charts.

The second album followed in 2003, and its four singles ruled Macedonian radio and TV charts. On 6 November 2004 the band celebrated ten years with a concert at the Skopje Fair, released as the live album Sabotna fiesta, nedelna siesta. I sega što? came out in 2008 and Afrika, released by the band itself, in 2012, the year of a concert at Metropolis Arena in Skopje. "Miki Lee" was a radio hit in 2015.

Superhiks has played EXIT in Novi Sad, Sziget in Budapest and Lent in Maribor, and has shared stages with Manu Chao, Green Day, Faith No More, House of Pain, Fishbone and Zvonko Bogdan. The best-of The Best of 20 So Far... (2014) and Underground Evergreens (2017) came out on Jugoton.

The band marked thirty years with Sila i nervoza in 2024, whose title song features Foltin, and with a 30th-anniversary concert. Today's line-up includes Mladenovski, Boris Minov, Darko Popov, a horn section of Aleksandar Spasovski, Valentin Vidović and Branko Ilievski, and DJ Goce Lalkovski.
