About Stray Dogg
Stray Dogg is a band from Belgrade that plays melancholic Americana. After a number of solo shows, the singer and songwriter Dušan Strajnić formed it in 2011 with Ana Janković and Jelena Damjanović, both graduates of the Belgrade Music Academy. A few months and four demos later they were opening for Chinawoman and Scout Niblett, and the guitarist Marko Ignjatović, formerly of Inje, joined them.
Their debut album, Almost, recorded with Vladimir Milićević on bass and Uroš Milkić on drums, was self-released and put up for free download on Bandcamp and the Free Music Archive on 30 May 2011, where it was downloaded about 4,000 times. Its songs are mostly about love, Strajnić says. The single "Almost" was Popboks' number one single of 2011, and "Smile" topped the Popboks weekly chart in May 2012 and reached third place on the Jelen Top 10 and B92's Pop mašina. "Drunk" was picked for BIRP's compilation of July 2011.
Their biggest shows of that first period were at Dom omladine in Belgrade, in front of more than 500 people in autumn 2011 and a sold-out club of about 350 in April 2012, and they also played Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Zagreb's Tvornica and festivals such as Trenchtown, Mikser and Arsenal fest. Videos followed for "Fire's Never Wrong" (2012), "Disappear" (2013) and "Time", featuring Devendra Banhart, released on 28 October 2013.
The band has released four albums: Almost (2011), Fire's Never Wrong (2012), Come Along Wind (2015) and Look at the Moon (2018). Today's line-up is Strajnić on vocals, rhythm guitar, harmonica and harp, Ignjatović on lead guitar, Janković on piano, violin and backing vocals, Milićević on bass and Mladen Radovanović on drums.
