About Stanka Kovačič
Stanka Kovačič is a Slovenian singer of narodnozabavna, the folk-pop music of the Slovenian ensembles, born Stanka Gorišek on 9 January 1941. Songs such as "Prinesi mi rože", "V dolini tihi je vasica mala" and "Srček dela tika taka" became folk hits in her voice.
She first sang in a duet with Danilo Čadež. She then married Boris Kovačič, the clarinettist, composer and arranger who led the Ansambel Borisa Kovačiča, and became the ensemble's solo singer. Boris Kovačič wrote about 400 songs, and the ensemble, which made its first recordings in 1960, sold about half a million records and cassettes. "Prinesi mi rože" earned a gold record, and the singles with Stanka Kovačič went silver.
Her own records began with EPs on Jugoton: Kadar greš na planine and Ob zvokih citer in 1964, then Moje srce and Rekel mi je in 1965, and the album Sinko ne sprašuj in 1966. On Helidon followed "Kitara" and "Mati" with "Če sva se razšla" in 1970, and "Mili dom" and "Žametno nebo" with "Let metuljev" in 1971. Kadar pa mim' hiš'ce grem appeared on Jugoton in 1975.
Other well-known songs of the ensemble she sang include "Kaj mi lažeš" and "Moje sanje, sanje najine". Her songs are still known today: in 2022 the singer Nastja Gabor performed "Prinesi mi rože" as Stanka Kovačič on the television show Znan obraz ima svoj glas.
