About Sedmina

Sedmina is a Slovenian acoustic band founded in 1977 by Veno Dolenc and singer Melita Osojnik, then husband and wife. Its music mixed ethno, chanson, acoustic rock and folk. Dolenc played acoustic guitar and sang, Lado Jakša played clarinet, piano and flute, Božidar Ogorevc violin and viola, and Edi Stefančič classical guitar and tamburica.

Between 1977 and 1982, with Osojnik as its singer, Sedmina was something of a cult band and toured Slovenia, Yugoslavia and abroad. Its first LP, Melita in Veno Dolenc - Sedmina, came out on Helidon in 1980 with "Pesem o Tanji", "Jutro", "Magdalena", "Angel varuh", "Deklica z vžigalicami", "Etuda" and "Svatba". II. dejanje followed on Helidon in 1982, with "Ciganka", "Circus" and "Kólo (za Duško)". Both records were reissued in 1996 by the Italian label Mellotron Records.

Later releases include Onkraj reke (1994), Stekleni čas (1999), on which the band set poems by François Villon, France Prešeren, Kajetan Kovič and Janez Menart and folk songs to music, and Rojstvo idola, first issued in 1993 under the name Duma and reissued as Sedmina in 1998.

Lado Jakša and Božidar Ogorevc also played in Salamander, the experimental group of Tomaž Pengov and Milan Dekleva, and Veno Dolenc played in the early years of Kladivo, konj in voda, the band of Damjana Golavšek. Melita Osojnik went solo in 1994 and has since recorded set poetry for adults and many albums of songs and musical stories for children.
