About Sandra Mihanovich
Sandra Mihanovich is an Argentine singer, songwriter and actress, born on 24 April 1957 in the Recoleta district of Buenos Aires. She is on Muzika-Balkan because of her father's family: English Wikipedia describes her father, the polo player Iván Mihanovich, as being of Croatian descent, and Spanish Wikipedia calls him "of Croatian and criollo origin". Her mother is the journalist and television presenter Mónica Cahen D'Anvers, and the composer Sergio Mihanovich is her uncle.
Her whole career has been made in Argentina. She was still performing there in 2026, when her official channel marked fifty years on stage with a concert at the Teatro Ópera in Buenos Aires, released as a live album.
She went to Northlands School in Olivos, studied music at the Catholic University of Argentina and, from 1976, theatre at the Conservatorio de Arte Dramático. Her first show as a singer was at the La Ciudad pub on 20 May 1976, and her first album, Pienso en vos, followed in 1977.
Her breakthrough came in 1982 with "Puerto Pollensa", a song by Marilina Ross that became her signature. In October of that year she was the first woman soloist to give her own show at Obras, the Buenos Aires arena known as the cathedral of Argentine rock. Albums followed almost every year: Hagamos el amor (1983), Soy lo que soy (1984), Como la primera vez (1985) and Sandra en el paraíso (1986). In 1986 she won the Silver Torch at the Viña del Mar festival in Chile.
With the rock singer Celeste Carballo she recorded two duet albums, Somos mucho más que dos (1988) and Mujer contra mujer (1990). Later albums include Si somos gente (1991), Todo brilla (1992), Cambio de planes (1994), Todo tiene un lugar (2000), the live Creciendo (2007), Honrar la vida (2009), Vuelvo a estar con vos (2012) and Bendiciones (2022). She has also acted on stage and starred in the television series Vulnerables (1999).
Sandra Mihanovich won the Platinum Konex award in 1995 as the best female pop and ballad singer of the decade, and again in 2015, and Buenos Aires named her a Distinguished Personality of the city's culture. The playlist here is her Topic channel, led by the 2026 Teatro Ópera concert.
