About Refija Muslić

Refija Muslić is a Bosnian singer of sevdalinka. She was born on 8 April 1956 in Foča, Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is why she is on Muzika-Balkan under Bosnia, and she has lived in Sarajevo since 1970. She finished primary and secondary school there.

For 22 years she worked at the Sarajevo company Satex, and she sang at shows as a regular member of the cultural society KUD Gajret. Her first public appearance was at Dom mladih in Skenderija. For almost three decades she was a vocal soloist of Radio Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she recorded a large number of sevdalinke for the archive and a CD of newly composed folk songs.

She was a member of the Institut sevdaha from its beginning until the death of its founder, Omer Pobrić. In the institute's first team of vocal soloists she gave many concerts and toured Europe and the wider world. She recorded three CDs with the institute and took part in dozens of festivals, where songs she wrote herself were also performed. She is the president of the sevdah singers' association Saray sevdah.

In a 2024 interview she said that she had stayed with the traditional sevdalinka rather than newly composed folk music, even if that made her path harder, and that she never regretted it, because melodies inspired by tradition last longer. She named Zaim Imamović, Himzo Polovina, Safet Isović and Zehra Deović as her models. The playlist is her own channel, with "Šta sad hoćeš" (2020), "Sevdalinko pjesmo najmilija" (2021), "Bere cura plav jorgovan" and "Španske lađe".
