About Prifarski muzikanti
Prifarski muzikanti, known simply as Prifarci, are a Slovenian folk band from the village of Fara pri Kostelu in the Kolpa valley, founded in 1987. Their name means "the musicians from Fara". They play on tamburica instruments, the berda, bisernica, brač and bugarija, joined by accordion and violin, and give old Slovenian folk songs and evergreens a fresh, ethno feel without wanting to be boxed into one genre.
The members have serious day jobs: singer and berda player Mitja Ferenc is a professor of history at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana, and the band has counted a mayor among its ranks. The line-up includes Valentin Južnič on bisernica, Martin Marinč and Toni Obranovič on accordion, Uroš Obranovič on bugarija, Jernej Pečak on violin and Brane Počkar on brač.
Their first album came out in 1993. Their fourth CD, Dober večer, mamica, received the Zlati petelin as the best ethno album of the year in Slovenia. At the Festival narečnih popevk in Maribor, the festival of songs in Slovenian dialects, they have won four times since 2005, most recently in 2011 with "Moja Izola", which took the most audience and viewer votes. In 2009 their song "Tisti nekdo" won the audience vote at Slovenska popevka. They also helped found the EtnoKostel festival in 2007 and won there in 2009.
Prifarci toured the USA in 2000 and have played in Denmark, Russia, Great Britain, Germany, Austria and Italy. At home they are best known for their annual concerts at Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana, which usually fill its Gallus Hall; the concerts with friends have been broadcast by RTV Slovenija. Their guests have included Tinkara Kovač, with whom they sang "Dajte novici, kar ji gre" and "Oj, mati, mamca".
