About Platin
Platin, also known as Duo Platin, is a Slovenian pop duo made up of the married couple Diana Lečnik Gomilšek and Simon Gomilšek. On their festival songs Simon writes the music and Diana the lyrics. The two met in a six-piece band that played mostly abroad, stayed with it for two years and then set out on their own as a duo in 2000.
They first introduced themselves to a wider audience in 2001 on the RTV Slovenija programme Orion with the song "Grafit", and went on to sing at the Festival of dialect songs, the Hit festival and Melodije morja in sonca. Their first album was called Pet minut. In 2003 they entered EMA, the Slovenian Eurovision selection, with "Sto in ena zgodba", which finished 13th.
Their big moment came a year later. At EMA 2004 "Stay Forever" made it through the semi-finals and into a superfinal, where the public televote chose it as the winner, so Platin represented Slovenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 in Istanbul. In the semi-final on 12 May 2004 they were 21st of 22 with 5 points and did not reach the final, following Karmen Stavec and handing over to Omar Naber the next year. After their semi-final performance the two got engaged on stage, and they were married the following day.
In 2006 they returned to Melodije morja in sonca in Portorož with "Vrsta omame", the year Domen Kumer won with "Banana". Their releases also include "Stay forever", "Vse ostalo" and a run of German-language records: "Nur Du", "Total machtlos" and "So weit der Wind mich trägt", and in 2013 the album Ich lieb' dich viel zu sehr, with German versions of their own songs such as "Bleib für immer (Stay Forever)", "Fünf Minuten" and "Tausendmal". That album is the playlist on this page.
Simon and Diana live in Maribor and stepped back from the media without ever stopping making music. With their band Smash, founded around 2007, they play mostly in the German-speaking part of Europe, and for years they played New Year's Eve at a hotel in Vienna, while as Platin they still sing as a duo at events in Slovenia. In 2021 they released "Vesolje srca" and announced a new album, which did not come out.
