About Narcis Vučina

Narcis Vučina is a Bosnian singer-songwriter, composer, poet, arranger and producer, born on 5 March 1952 in Sarajevo. He went to the First Gymnasium there, studied English at the Faculty of Philosophy and finished music school as a violinist. His first single, "Zlatne suze" with "Kad pođeš na more", came out in 1974, and his first success as a songwriter was "Čist zrak", set to words by the poet Duško Trifunović. He was one of the most active young people on the Sarajevo TV youth show Na Ti.

From 1976 to 1978 he played in an acoustic duo with Slobodan Samardžić, and in 1980 he formed the group Radio and wrote the music for its album. Much of his success came through songs for Seid Memić Vajta: he wrote the English lyrics of "Lejla", Yugoslavia's Eurovision song in Dublin in 1981, "Naša pisma", which won Vaš šlager sezone in 1982, and "Labudovi moji", which won the Opatija festival in 1985. He also wrote for Goran Kovačević and Amila Sulejmanović.

As a singer he represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Yugoslav Eurovision selection in 1988 with "Voljeću te" and in 1990 with "Sitna kiša padala", and came second at Beogradsko proleće in 1988 with Zerina Cokoja. His album Mir came out in Sarajevo in 1991.

He later settled in Copenhagen, where he sang "Sarajevo Kid" in the city's 1996 cultural programme. With the producer Claes Cornelius he made the albums Sarajevo Kid (1998), Narcis u zemlji kralja Freedoma (2001) and Samica (2002), and twice reached the Bosnian Eurosong final, with "Freedom" in 2001 and "Easily" in 2003. Narcisi followed in 2004.

His "Jazz.ba" was recorded by Crvena jabuka in 2009 and took second place at the Croatian Radio Festival, and the same year he sang "Idu godine" with Arsen Dedić. Ručni rad - Sarajevo (2013) is a duet album with Dražen Žerić Žera, Poezija i šansona (2017) was made with Matija Dedić and Zijah Sokolović, and Mačak u prozoru came out in 2019. Narcis Vučina has also written music for children's television, TV dramas and the theatre.
