About Miran Rudan

Miran Rudan is a Slovenian pop singer, born on 16 August 1965 in Zagreb, where his parents were living for a time. He grew up in Krško, went to the Jurij Dalmatin primary school there and finished secondary school in nearby Brežice. His uncle was the well-known Slovenian clarinettist Albin Rudan.

He began singing in the school choir. In 1984 he won an audition and joined the group Moulin Rouge, and in 1985 he became the singer of Randez Vous, taking over from their previous frontman Wolf. With them he recorded three albums: Debela dek'lca (1985), Zelana je moja dolina (1986) and Shopping in Graz (1988).

At the end of 1988 he joined Pop Design, and with him the band became far better known. In little more than a year they played almost every festival in Yugoslavia: "Baby Blue" at the Yugoslav selection for Eurovision in 1989, "Odhajam v life", which won the radio stations' vote at Pop delavnica, and songs at Split, Zagrebfest and Makfest. Their album Slava Vojvodine Kranjske came out in 1989. After a dispute over the promotion of "Hasta la vista" he left in 1990, and Vili Resnik took his place. In 1990 he was also one of the singers who, with Pepel in kri, backed the Italian singer Toto Cutugno on the winning song of the Eurovision Song Contest in Zagreb.

His solo albums began with Objemi me (1990), Vračam se (1992) and 1994, made with Avtomobili, followed by D*E*K*A*D*A (1995), V srce (1998), 118701120 (2001) and Arena (2007). At EMA, the Slovenian selection for Eurovision, he came tenth with "Prepozno je za vse" in 1993 and again with "Cvetje in vrtovi" in 1998. His biggest success was "Laure ni več", a Slovenian version of Nek's "Laura non c'è", and several more hits were Slovenian versions of songs by the German singer Nik P. Later, dance remixes of his older hits by Dee Jay Time and DJ Svizec brought him a second wave of success.

In 2007 Miran Rudan returned to Pop Design. The band gave two well-attended concerts at Križanke in Ljubljana, in 2010 and 2012, and released the album Petindvajset in 2010. In July 2021 he left the band a second time, together with keyboard player Tomaž Pavlin and bass player Tomaž Zajšek, and started a new line-up. His newer videos, released as Miran Rudan inDESIGN, include "Lažeš mi", "Nekaj najinih stvari", "Amen" and "Vse zaradi nje" (2025), and he has sung "Ko si na tleh" live with Vili Resnik.
