Leopold I.

Leopold I. is a Slovenian rapper, musician and translator. His real name is Michael Leopold, and the stage name comes from his surname. He was born on 18 April 1991 in Gornja Radgona in north-eastern Slovenia, which is why he is on Muzika-Balkan under Slovenia. He raps in Slovenian, in the dialect of the Radgona area, and has lived in Maribor for more than ten years.

He started out under the name Majki in the Maribor group Rap Virus Crew, and holds a master's degree in translation from German. As Leopold I. he has been active since 2020. "Povej" was his first breakthrough, and "Nesen", recorded with Mito and Eyeceeou, and "Edino" established him on the scene.

His first album, Dobro jütro, came out on 17 June 2022 on Wudisban Records, made with the producer Vid Turica. Among its songs are "Edino", "Nesen", "Wabi-sabi" with Amaya and "Pleše po svoje" with Hauptman. "Kinderšpil" made him one of the best-known names of Slovenian hip hop, and in 2023 it won the listeners' award for the best new Slovenian song at the Frišno festival. He also rapped a verse on "Vse, kar mam" by Trkaj, used in the film Oto, and recorded "Moja draga se rada slika" with Vlado Kreslin.

More singles followed: "Čizi" and "Tista zakartana ura" in 2023, "Skada" in 2024, and in 2025 "Srebrne niti", "Na glas" for a campaign against violence, "Deset deževnih zapovedi", "Škrt", "Hica" and "Mej se rad". On stage he usually plays with his band Drügi: Filip Vadnu on guitar, Vid Turica on bass, Žan Hauptman on keyboards and vocals and Karlo Petrovič on drums.
