About La Volpe

La Volpe is an alternative rock band from Split, and Split is where it is still based. That is why it is on Muzika-Balkan under Croatia: Croatian Wikipedia and the music press describe it as an indie rock band from Split, and its recent songs are sung in Croatian.

The band was formed on 12 October 2014. The guitarist and singer Marino Vrca had songs of his own lying in a drawer and, as Croatian Wikipedia puts it, nobody in Split who wanted to play something that alternative, until two brave musicians joined him. Their influences include Queens of the Stone Age, Jack White, Arctic Monkeys, Muse and The Mars Volta. The line-up became Vrca, Karlo Topić on guitar and synth, Roko Zanze on bass and Luka Donadini on drums.

Before their first record they made two videos directed by Ivica Lazane, "Hello Shallow" in 2015 and "BangBang" in 2016. The self-released demo album Way Away came out in February 2017, recorded at Studio Sensorija, with eleven songs and a tribute to David Bowie. In three years they played some fifty venues, among them regional finals of several band contests and a live session on Radio Split. In 2017 they won a place at the INmusic festival in Zagreb through the contest Zasviraj sa Žujom, where they had the most votes from the expert jury.

Their English-language EP Picaresque followed. Its singles included "In This Hole" in 2018, "Languages" in 2019 and "Tiffany" in 2020, recorded at the Propeler studio of Jan Ivelić, with a video by Wild Dream Studio.

Then the band changed course. With the new singer Iva Omazić from Đakovo, who joined just before they began recording a new studio album, La Volpe released "Gledaj me u oči" at the start of 2024, its first song in its mother tongue. "Slovo ranije" and "Drpanje i čaj" followed in 2024, and "Ovo nije rudnik, ovo je grob" and "Jedan tren" in 2025. The playlist gathers their videos, from "In This Hole" to "Jedan tren".
