About Irish Stew of Sindidun
Irish Stew of Sindidun is a Celtic rock band from Belgrade, formed in January 2003. The idea came from two fans of Irish music, the singer and tin whistle player Bojan Petrović and the guitarist Nenad Gavrilov, who first talked about a band in 2002. They began as a cover band playing Irish traditional songs and songs by The Pogues, and soon started writing their own. Their sound moved over the years from Irish folk and Celtic punk towards light punk rock.
The first line-up was Petrović, Gavrilov, Ivan Đurić on banjo and electric guitar, Ana Mrkobrada on violin, Aleksandar Gospodinov on bass and Pavle Medan on drums. Their first live appearance was on 26 June 2003 on the radio show Celtic Night on Radio Obrenovac. In 2004 they won the audience award at Radio Beograd 202's Demo Masters tournament and an award at the Demo Maraton of the Belgrade Youth Centre.
Their debut album, So Many Words..., came out on One Records in 2005, with nine songs of their own, three traditional covers and videos for "Puzzle of Life" and "Why". Dare to Dream followed in 2008 and was ranked the fifth-best release of the year by the Celtic punk site Shite'n'Onions; the video for "Ditch" came out in March 2009. That year Marko Krasnić left the drums to Marko Jovanović. New Tomorrow (2011), announced by the free single "Lady of New Tomorrow", was released both on CD and as a free multimedia application.
From around 2011 to 2016 Petrović also played whistles and sang backing vocals in Orthodox Celts while still leading Irish Stew. The band's fourth album, City of Grigs, came out on Ammonite Records in 2017, with "Heavier Than Sin" as a single. Their channel has the official videos, songs recorded in quarantine and a full concert at the Hala sportova in Belgrade in 2019.
