Inmate

Inmate is a Slovenian metal band from Velenje, playing melodic death metal and metalcore. The band was formed in Velenje in 2005 and is still based there, which is why it is on Muzika-Balkan under Slovenia; in autumn 2026 it was playing clubs around Slovenia, from Celje to Maribor.

Inmate played its first concert in August 2005 in the shed of the youth centre in Šmartno ob Paki, where it rehearsed until 2009. It started as an instrumental band, and its first singer, Miha Oblišar, joined a year later. In 2006 the band played many concerts, made its first appearance at Metalcamp and came second at the national Zlata činela competition in Lendava. Finding a permanent singer took until 2009, when Rok "Mike" Miklavžina joined, and that year Inmate returned to Metalcamp. In 2010 it opened two shows of Dark Tranquillity's tour, in Zagreb and Vienna.

The debut album Free at Last came out in 2012 on Graviton Music Services, produced by Tat Purusha, who also produced Tree of Life (2015), presented at the Kunigunda festival. A planned 2014 tour with Sonic Syndicate fell through when Miklavžina left. Marko Duplišak, a guest on the first two albums, became the singer in 2016, and the band marked its twelfth year with the DVD XII in 2017. The single "Breakout Season" followed that year.

Anarthas, produced by Uroš Boršič, came out on 19 January 2019 with guests Giani Poposki and Igor Nardin of Noctiferia. Inmate twice took part in EMA, Slovenia's selection for Eurovision: with "Atma" in 2019, finishing seventh in the first round, and with "The Salt" in the 2020 final, again seventh. The albums A Small Measure of Peace (2020), The Salt (2021) and Let the Dead Bury Their Dead (2024) followed.

Drummer Jure Grudnik is the one founder still in the line-up, beside Duplišak and the guitarists David Vodopivec and Jure Vertelj. The playlist is Free at Last, the debut album, in full.
