About Res Nullius

Res Nullius was a Slovenian punk rock band from Velenje, formed in 1989 around singer Zoran Benčič and guitarist Boštjan Senegačnik, with David Zagajšek on bass and Davorin Štorgelj on drums. The band got going in earnest in 1991 with its first concert in Velenje, and the next year it played Novi Rock, where Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds were among the guests.

The first album, No One Can Like the Drummer Man, came out in 1993 and was very well reviewed by critics across the former Yugoslavia. Concerts in Slovenia and Croatia followed, with bands such as Majke, Nova Mob and Partibrejkers. In 1994 they signed with Croatia Records in Zagreb, which released the second album, Dead Town Dogs, in 1995, and "Straight to the Hell" got a music video. They played with Bad Brains in Ljubljana and returned to Novi Rock as the headliners of the night, and the American magazine Flipside named them one of the best punk rock bands from behind the former Iron Curtain.

By 1996 only Benčič and Senegačnik were left, joined by bassist Grega Sevnik and drummer Bojan Stopar, and a short tour of FR Yugoslavia followed. After five years together, the band found it could be just as convincing in Slovene: the third album, Zdravo je biti divji (1997, Statera Records), was recorded entirely in Slovene, and the band played some fifty concerts in Slovenia, Croatia and FR Yugoslavia to promote it. In 1999 they wrote two songs for the feature film Barabe.

After a break and several changes, bassist Boštjan Časl and drummer Janez Marin joined in 2002, and the band recorded Revolver ljubezni (2003, Nika Records). The fifth album, Prekletih bazar, was made in 2010 with producer Žare Pak at the Pavarotti Music Centre in Mostar and released in 2011. At the end of 2013 Res Nullius decided to stop, and said goodbye with a farewell tour that included Izštekani at Kino Šiška in Ljubljana and a last concert at Max Klub in Velenje on 25 December.
