About Eskobars
Eskobars is an indie rock band from Portorož on the Slovenian coast. It is on Muzika-Balkan under Slovenia because it is a Slovenian band from the Primorska region, and it writes and sings its songs in Slovenian. Slovenian Wikipedia describes it as a Portorož band, active since it was formed in 2008.
The band started as a trio: the singer and guitarist Jure Lesar, the drummer Bogdan Sojič and the bassist Rok Druscovich. The guitarist Teo Collori joined in 2011. Lesar writes the music and the words, and the music portal Music24 called him an exceptional poet.
Eskobars first caught wider attention in 2009, when they won the ItakDžafest contest and played on the same night as The Killers. Their set in the VIP tent, where the Killers guitarist Dave Keuning joined them unannounced, was stopped by the police, because the organisers' permit ran only until midnight, and the story made the news. In 2010 they opened two concerts of Plavi orkestar in Ljubljana's Hala Tivoli and played the Mars festival, sharing the stage with Skunk Anansie, Urban & 4 and Dan D.
Songs such as "Girls from Klagenfurt", "Cosmo Blues" and "Sobotne noči" won them attention from audiences and critics, among them the producer Dejan Radičević, who helped them make their first album. Eskobars came out in 2010 with ten songs in Slovenian, and Neisha wrote string arrangements for some of them.
The second album, Ni dovolj!, came out on 17 April 2014 and was presented the same day with a concert at Kino Šiška in Ljubljana. It was produced by Radičević and the band, and its singles were "Ni dovolj", "Vidim ti v očeh", "Hodim naprej" and "Dej povej"; "Potnik" came back from the first album in a punkier version. Critics liked it less than the debut. That year they also recorded "Brave Men" with Gramatik. Since 2018 Jure Lesar has also worked as a solo artist. The playlist gathers the band's videos and live recordings.
