About Duško Lokin

Duško Lokin is a Croatian singer from Zadar, born in 1943, and the brother of the economics professor Branimir Lokin. Until he was 17 he was a promising sportsman: he played second-division football and was called up to the Yugoslav junior handball team.

He started out singing at dances with the band Kondori, alongside guitarist Zoran Kravar, later a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, and pianist Vedran Božić. In 1969 Kondori had a big hit with "Draga Marija", released as a single with "Stol za dvoje".

As a solo singer Duško Lokin became a regular at the big festivals of the 1970s. He sang "Dobro jutro" in Split in 1972 and took second place at Vaš šlager sezone in 1974 with "Još pamtim", and he won Zagrebfest in 1974 with "Riječi pomirenja" and in 1976 with "Ženo moja". In 1975 came "Zvone stara zvona" at the Hit parada and "Jedna žena čeka brod" in Split. In 1976 he won the Hit parada with "Ti si bila uvijek pored mene" and received Jugoton's Zlatna ptica award for 100,000 records sold, and in 1977 he won Beogradsko proleće with "Kad porasteš".

His first album, Jagode na dlanu, came out in 1977, followed by Pričaj mi o ljubavi (1978), Volim te (1979), Ljubavi radi (1980), U trosjedu za dvoje (1981), Ne razočaravaj me (1983), Spomeni mi nekad ime (1985) and Oči pune suza (1988), among others. In the 1990s he recorded Donesi mi grudu zemlje Hrvatske (1990), Toplo mi je oko duše (1991), Noćas me tuga ubija (1994) and Nije zlato sve što sija (1995), and in 1997 an album of the greatest hits of Tomislav Ivčić. Later came Luda noć nas zove (1998), whose title song he sang at the Zadar festival, Dobro jutro Dalmacijo (2000) and Žute ruže i suze (2001).

He has often sung with klapas, with the women's klapa Brodosplit in Split in 1981 and with klapa Trogir in 1989, and he recorded duets with Džo Maračić Maki and with Emily, with whom he sang "Čeka me Dalmacija" in Split in 2007; in 2009 came "Adios Paloma" with Juraj Galin. According to Croatian Wikipedia he has sold more than five million records and received 25 gold records.
