About Društvo mrtvih pesnikov

Društvo mrtvih pesnikov, usually called DMP, is a Slovenian pop rock band from Novo mesto. Under this name the band has played since September 1990, and its line-up today is singer and guitarist Alan Vitezič, guitarist Peter Dekleva, keyboard player Boštjan Artiček, bassist Tomaž Koncilija and drummer Marko Zajc.

Its roots go back to 1987, when schoolmates Borut Tiran and Boštjan Kovačič got a guitar and a synthesizer and, with Simon Žižek on drums and Tomaž Koncilija on bass, started a band called Proteus. Borut became the singer, and Alan Vitezič soon joined as a second guitarist. In 1989 Proteus came second at a young bands' contest in Postojna. On the long bus ride home from a concert in Langenhagen near Hanover in 1990, the members decided on a new name, inspired by the film Dead Poets Society.

The band made its mark at Pop delavnica: in 1992 "Ko te ni" brought the title of most promising band, and in 1993 "Ko prižgeš nov dan" won the expert jury's vote. Their first cassette, Iskanje, came out on ZKP RTVS in 1993. Opus II followed in 1996 as the first CD-Plus in Slovenia, with "Ti in jaz", and in 1998 Neki rabm, da te ne pozabm on Helidon, with "Čutm te" and "Rabm". The album 20:00 (2000) brought "Me že ma, da bi te", "25" and "Ti si vse", which became their biggest hit.

In November 2002 founding member Borut Tiran left. Guitarist Jernej Zoran joined in 2004, and the album Vojna in mir, produced by Žare Pak, came out on Menart in 2008, with the singles "Naftalin", "Komu zvoni", "Kisik", "Otrok", "Sveče" and "Superheroj". Zoran left at the end of 2009.

Peter Dekleva then joined and played on Krog (2010), made for the band's twentieth anniversary with new arrangements of older songs and new ones such as "Rabm 2", "Pingvin" and "Nebo nad Berlinom". The new version of "Pod oblakom" was even played on a radio station in Tucson, Arizona, and the Slovenian Octet recorded "Ti si vse". Boštjan Artiček joined on keyboards at the album's launch concert at Kino Šiška.

For the band's 25th anniversary the double album 25 came out in 2015, with their hits, two new songs, "Pleši z mano" and "Na polju zlomljenih besed", and early recordings. In 2016 they presented "Balet" on TV Slovenija, and in 2018 they released the album Astronavt.
