MRFY

MRFY is an indie rock band from Novo mesto, Slovenia, founded in 2013. The name is pronounced "Murphy": the band named itself after the American engineer Edward Aloysius Murphy, known for the saying that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Singer and main songwriter Gregor Strasbergar, known as Štras, leads the band with guitarist Tomaž Zupančič, drummer Rok Klobučar and bassist Dejan Slak.

Their first singles were "Klic" in December 2016 and "Always (Če te najdem)" in April 2017, followed by "Anakin" in October 2017 and "Tretje oko" in January 2018. In 2017 they played Ortofest in Ljubljana alongside their indie rock contemporaries Koala Voice. The debut EP A Side of the Story came out on 1 March 2018 and was followed by the Dobar dan Tour around Slovenia, which ended at Gala hala in Ljubljana on 24 May. A live album recorded for the radio show Izštekani appeared that July.

The first full-length album, Story, came out on SonicTribe in September 2018 and was well received; the band made nine singles with music videos from it, among them "Ti dam", "Umru zate" and "Heaven&Hell". The video for "Umru zate" was directed by the musician Katarina Rešek - Kukla. In spring 2019 the Top Mont Tour took them from Maribor through Kamnik, Celje, Izola, Tolmin and Ljubljana back home to Novo mesto, and that summer they played with Skunk Anansie at Kino Šiška and at Šiška Open, the venue's tenth birthday, where Laibach were also on the bill.

Songs such as "Prjatučki", "Angeli" and "Tobogan" followed in 2021 and 2022, and the second album, Use, came out in 2022. The third, Helo, was released in March 2025. MRFY worked on it for three years, in several countries and studios, partly in London, and it has 14 songs in three languages, among them "Venera", "Ljubav", "Goff" and the title track. They presented it at their own event, MRFY Praznik, at Media Center in Ljubljana on 21 March 2025, in front of more than 3,000 fans.

At the 2026 Zlata piščal awards the band was named artist of the year for the third time, and Helo won album of the year. In 2026 they also released a joint EP with RotorMotor, with the songs "Počitnice" and "Noč in dan".
