Braco Koren

Franc "Braco" Koren is a Slovenian singer of popular and narodnozabavna (Slovenian folk-pop) music, born in 1944 in Jesenice. Music runs in the family: his father, Franc Koren, was the first singer of the Avsenik Brothers Ensemble.

Braco Koren became one of the singers of Alpski kvintet, the ensemble founded in Kranj in 1966 that is known across the German-speaking countries for its Alpine style. He sang with the group in the years before 1996, in the same era as Ivanka Kraševec, Janko Ropret and Oto Pestner. He was also a singer of the Avsenik house ensemble, which was set up to perform Avsenik music.

He also sang light pop at the Melodije morja in sonca festival in Portorož: "Moj Piran" in 1978, "Io non ci credo più" in 1979 and "Včasih" in 1980, a song that won the expert jury's award for the best lyrics. His best-known songs are "Ptica vrh Triglava" and "U hribe gremo".
