About Ansambel Igor in zlati zvoki
Ansambel Igor in zlati zvoki, known in German-speaking countries as Igor und seine Oberkrainer, is a Slovenian narodnozabavna (Slovenian folk-pop) ensemble active since 1992. Its leader Igor Podpečan founded it after the end of the Avsenik Brothers Ensemble, in whose last line-up he had played baritone and bass; before that he played in the Celjski inštrumentalni kvintet. In his own ensemble he plays accordion.
Like the Avsenik group, it is a classic quintet line-up. Today it is Igor Podpečan on accordion, vocals and trombone, Jelka Hafner on lead vocals and violin, Zmago Tkavc on clarinet and saxophone, Mike Orešar on guitar, Martin Frece on bass and Boštjan Lašič on trumpet and drums. Both Frece and Lašič followed their fathers, Vinko Frece and Stanislav Lašič, who had played in the ensemble before them.
They have recorded with Alfi Nipič, Lucienne Lončina, Tomaž Domicelj and Irena Vrčkovnik, and in the years after Lojze Slak's death above all with Fantje s Praprotna. Their cassettes, CDs and DVDs, for Slovenia and the German-speaking market, came out on Podpečan's own label Zlati zvoki and earned a golden cassette and a platinum record.
They seldom entered festivals, but in 1998 "Zlatolaska" won the best waltz award at Slovenska polka in valček. They appeared three times on Karl Moik's Musikantenstadl, toured the United States and Canada in 2002, 2006 and 2007, and in 2002 received the Slovenski rubinasti slavček award; Jelka Hafner was named best singer of Slovenian folk music in 2000 and 2002.
Their albums run from Naš ata ni copata (1992) through Halo, Evropa! (2006) and Zakaj si tak štor? (2007) to 25 melodij za 25 let (2017), the year they marked 25 years with a main concert in Slovenj Gradec on 1 July. Their best-known songs include "Gasilec moj", "Kavboj Joe", "Lunco bom vprašal" and "Deklica s črnimi očmi".
