About Ansambel bratov Poljanšek

Ansambel bratov Poljanšek is a Slovenian narodnozabavna (folk-pop) ensemble from the Tuhinj valley (Tuhinjska dolina). Three brothers founded it in 1971, Rudi on accordion, Danilo on bass guitar and Miro on trumpet, and they invited two friends, Marjan Vrhovnik and Janez Pavlič, to join them. The band is best known for the song "Skupaj za vedno".

At first they played mostly songs by Ansambel Lojzeta Slaka, Ansambel Rudija Bardorferja and Ansambel bratov Avsenik, and their very first gig was at the Gostilna pri Čibru inn. In 1986 Danilo left to start his own ensemble, which lasted not quite four years; when it broke up he came back at Rudi's invitation. After 1989 Rudi Poljanšek began writing more of his own music, and the band then had the brothers with clarinettist Forti Hribernik, guitarist Roman Komatar and singer Filip Kranjec.

Most of their hits were written by Rudi Poljanšek. "Špela" came from Filip Kranjec and "Veselo v Kamnik" from Andrej Blumauer, while the lyrics were mostly by Ivan Malavašič, the twin brothers Franci and Jože Smrekar, Ivan Sivec, Vera Kumprej and Bernard Miklavc, who wrote the words of "Skupaj za vedno". Their best-known songs also include "Harmonika", "Hodim po svetu", "Kadar srečam tvojo hčerko", "Kje si, očka moj" and "Veselo v Kamnik".

The band won the radio show Lojtrca domačih three times. In 1991 they took the award for the best trio at the Števerjan festival, in 1992 the third prize of the expert jury at Vurberk, and in the same year they won the Ptuj festival with "Najmlajši", chosen by both the jury and the audience. For their 25th anniversary in 1996 they gave a big concert with guests in the sports hall in Kamnik.

In May 2009 guitarist Gašper Plahuta, known for his deep bass voice from Ansambel Toneta Rusa, joined, and singer Maks Kresnik later sang with them. In 2013 a concert in Snovik celebrated forty years of playing, hosted by Maja Oderlap, with guests including Ansambel Poljanšek, founded by Rudi's son Sandi, and Tanja Žagar. Their albums run from V Tuhinjsko dolino (1991) through Skupaj za vedno (2000), Vse dobro ti želim, dežela moja (2003) and Slovenska pesem (2009) to Slovenski materi (2016), released for their 45th anniversary.
