About Andrea True

Andrea True was an American disco singer, best known for the 1976 hit "More, More, More" with her project the Andrea True Connection. She was born Andrea Marie Truden on 26 July 1943 in Nashville, Tennessee, and her parents were immigrants from Slovenia, which is why she is on Muzika-Balkan under Slovenia. She sang in English. She spent her last years in Woodstock, New York, and died on 7 November 2011 in a hospital in nearby Kingston, aged 68.

Music ran in the family: her mother, Anne, was a professional singer of polka who made her own record and performed with Frankie Yankovic's band. Andrea studied classical piano, went to St. Cecilia Academy, a Catholic girls' school for the performing arts, studied music at George Peabody College, and at fifteen hosted her own show, Teen Beat, on Nashville television. In the late 1960s she moved to New York, where she first worked as a film actress.

Around 1975, filming commercials in Jamaica, she could not take her pay out of the country, so she spent it on a demo of "More, More, More", a song she had been working on with producer Gregg Diamond. Remixed by Tom Moulton, it became a club favourite and reached no. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, no. 1 on the US disco chart and in Canada, no. 5 in the UK and no. 9 in Germany. An album of the same name followed, with the second single "Party Line". She played around 300 shows in a year from June 1976.

In 1977 "N.Y., You Got Me Dancing" reached no. 27 on the Billboard pop chart and no. 4 on the disco chart, and in 1978 "What's Your Name, What's Your Number" reached no. 56 in the US and no. 34 in the UK. Both were on her second album, White Witch. Her third and last album, the rock and new-wave War Machine (1980), was released only in Europe. Later a growth on her vocal cords needed surgery and ended her singing, though she still played two sold-out shows at the Paramount Theater in New York in 1994.

In 1999 the Canadian group Len sampled "More, More, More" in "Steal My Sunshine", and in 2000 VH1 placed it 45th among the greatest dance songs. In her later years she worked as a counsellor and an astrologer and lived on the song's royalties. She said she wanted to be remembered as someone who brought people joy with her music. The playlist gathers her three hits and remixes of "More, More, More".
