About Andraž Hribar

Andraž Hribar is a Slovenian pop and rock singer, songwriter and musician, born on 9 June 1975 in Ljubljana. He is the son of Milan Hribar, singer of the former Slovenian band Prah, and he writes most of the music and lyrics of his songs himself.

He studied music at a lower and then a secondary music school, where he was in the jazz department, and gained his first stage experience in young bands such as Kebri and Soulata. After grammar school he studied communication science at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Ljubljana and graduated in 2001.

He first stepped out as a solo artist at Slovenska popevka 1998, a place he earned by winning one of the shows of the TV programme Orion. With "Ne jokat', lubika" he came second and received the jury's award for the best debutant. Fifteen years later, in 2013, he won the expert jury's grand prize for the best song at the same festival with "Po čem diši ta dan". He took part in EMA, the Slovenian selection for Eurovision, five times, and came closest to winning on his first try in 2001, when "Življenje je" finished second. "Moja moja" followed in 2002, "Letim naprej" in 2003, "Rapad tepe ipi mapam" in 2006 and "Corpomorto (Jutri jadram naprej)" in 2008. At the 2001 Festival of Slovenian Chanson the jury named him best performer for "Cigareta".

His albums are Lubika (2000), Življenje je (2001), Tretja plata (2003) and Narobe ton (2007). Huanani, released on 25 August 2017, was recorded with the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra together with the composer and conductor Rok Golob, and its title song came third in the superfinal of Poprock that year. Čas je (2020) went back to electric guitars; his father wrote some of its lyrics, and Neisha played analogue keyboards on it. In 2023 he presented his eighth studio album, Neskončnost, a record about nostalgia for past and lasting loves, announced with the ballad "Vračaš mi več, kot ti dajem".

Among his best-known songs are "Pomlad", "Ognjen obroč", "Kadar si tu", "Med nami", "Kaj mi delaš?" and "Kmalu bo konec te zime". In 2013 the municipality of Kočevje gave him its plaque for long-standing success in promoting his home town through culture and music.
