About Alma Subašić
Alma Subašić (Subašić-Omerović) is a Bosnian singer of sevdalinka, the traditional love song of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and one of its youngest well-known voices. She was born on 30 May 1994 in Konjic, Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is why she is on Muzika-Balkan under Bosnia. She has sung sevdalinke since she was ten, and today she lives in Sarajevo.
She got her love for the old songs from her father, who played the accordion. As a child she won the folk music festival in Konjic with the unanimous vote of the audience and the jury, passed an audition at the public broadcaster of Bosnia and Herzegovina and recorded her first single, "Veni moja ljubavi", for the archive of Radio-Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Her first album, Pjesme u srcu i duši desetogodišnje djevojčice, followed and was later issued three times. Soon after she gave her first solo charity concert in her home town, with a large orchestra.
She was twelve when she first sang sevdalinke at the Vatroslav Lisinski concert hall in Zagreb, and she has sung at the "Sevdah u Lisinskom" concerts ever since. She has represented Bosnian sevdah alongside Hanka Paldum, Meho Puzić, Zehra Deović and Beba Selimović, and has sung at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, the Beethoven Hall in Stuttgart, the Atatürk Hall in Istanbul, a cultural centre in Toronto, Sava Centar in Belgrade and the National Theatre in Sarajevo. She won the BiH Oscar as discovery of the year and the prize for best debutante at the Ilidža festival. She has also written her own songs, among them "Bagrem stari", "Nigdje tako k'o u Bosni nema" and "Prva ljubav".
In 2024 she released the album Sevdah del Alma, "sevdah from the soul", made with the music production of BHRT and its orchestra. Its videos include "Rosna livada" with Neda Nikolić and "Omere, prvo gledanje" with Zanin Berbić, a song known from Himzo Polovina, and she has also recorded "Glasom iz sehara" with Damir Imamović, who wrote it. Among the singers she loves she has named Zora Dubljević, Silvana Armenulić, Zekija Suman and Emina Zečaj.
Away from the stage she has a master's degree in architecture and works in the protection of monuments, studies ethnomusicology at the Academy of Music, and is a co-founder of the SEVDAH Foundation, a cultural, research and archive organisation. The playlist is the album Sevdah del Alma.
