About Aleksandra Pileva

Aleksandra Pileva is a Macedonian pop and rock singer, born on 10 June 1980 in Negotino. She studied garment engineering at the Faculty of Technology in Skopje. Her first festival appearance was at Makfest in 1998 with the song "Ti si toj".

From 2000 she sang rock songs in Skopje clubs with the band Session Selection, and with them she performed her own song "Iskriveni sliki" at Makfest that year. At 22 she was the oldest finalist of the talent show Play, a search for new stars, where she sang "Angel moj" by Darko Dimitrov and Aleksandar Ristovski Princ in the grand final and won one of the two special awards; the show brought her a contract with M2 Productions.

At Makfest 2004 she sang "Nema uteha" and won the Grand Prix, the audience's first prize and the accredited journalists' award for best voice. In 2005 she was one of six candidates to represent Macedonia at Eurovision. In the final against Martin Vučić she sang four songs, closing with "Sonce i mesečina", and won the telephone vote, but Vučić had more points from the jury and the audience and went to Eurovision. Her debut album, Sonce i mesečina, followed the same year.

In 2006 she left M2 Productions and returned to Makfest with "Srebreni vojnici", which won the audience's second prize and the journalists' award for best vocal performance; she also sang "Sonce i mesečina" at the international festival in Budva, Montenegro. "Letaj so mene" (2007) was the first song she wrote herself, and it spent several weeks at number two on the MTV Adria Top 20. It opened the way for her rock album Get Back to Studio Rock 'n' Roll (2008), for which she wrote music and lyrics to several songs, and for her first DVD, recorded live at the same studio.

In 2008, for the Ministry of Culture project Pej na kirilica, she recorded the rock song "Dal da plačam il da peam". In 2009 she gave her first solo concert in Skopje, with Električni Orgazam among the guests and some 7,000 people in the audience, and in 2010 she played the beer festival in Belgrade. In 2011 she opened her own rock club, Led Zeppelin, in Skopje, where many Macedonian rock bands have played. In 2012 she won the award for best performance at the Ohrid summer festival and began work on a third album, Antiretro.
