About Aleksandra Janeva

Aleksandra Janeva is a Macedonian pop singer, born on 25 May 1995 in Strumica. She first sang at school events, then in the choir of the Jane Sandanski high school in Strumica, and briefly with the local band Alarm. An Easter concert she gave in her home town in 2010 caught the attention of the media, which compared her voice to Adele and Jessie J.

The year 2013 made her name. On 30 March she won a French chanson competition in Strumica with "L'amour en héritage", and she then won the Macedonian Radio-Television talent show Site naši pesni, representing her town. That same year she made her debut at Makfest in Štip with "Vrati mi go sonceto" and won the audience award, the festival statuette and the jury's plaque for vocal interpretation. In November she sang "Loš den" at the Skopje Festival.

In 2014 she took third place for best vocals and a special award at the Discovery festival in Varna, Bulgaria, sang "Spremna sum" at Makfest, won the prize for best interpretation at Ohrid Fest with "Anđel" and placed ninth of twenty at the Skopje Festival with "Vo tvojot svet". She also sang before some 30,000 people at the Strumica Open festival. In 2015 she joined the Coverland project with musicians of the Macedonian Opera and Ballet and recorded "Where You Shine" with DJ Zorr Alex.

Her first solo concert, a charity show, was held in Strumica on 24 April 2016. That year she won Makfest a second time, with "Za sto godini", and at Ohrid Fest her song "Najmilo moe" won the awards for best lyrics and best arrangement. In December 2016 Strumica gave her its annual award for culture, and in August 2017 she drew about 2,000 people to the open-air concert Aleksandra Janeva & Friends.

Singles such as "Solza za kraj", "Zošto baš ti", "Bam bam", "Ke se vratam nekoj den", "Srce otvori" and "Odgovor" followed between 2017 and 2019. In 2019 she was one of the backing singers for Tamara Todevska at the Eurovision Song Contest, where "Proud" finished seventh, the country's first top-ten result. She has kept releasing songs since, among them "Glumime", "Dozdovi", "Našata pesna" with Tyzee, "Sestro" and "Kako spieš ti".
