Tretji kanu

Tretji kanu is an indie pop band from Novo mesto in Slovenia, active since 2015. It began as a duo of Anja Pavlin, who sings and writes the words, and Jan Medle, who sings, plays guitar and writes the melodies, and the two of them are still the heart of the group.

Their first song, "Ni prostora", came out in April 2016 together with a music video. It and the two singles that followed, "V mleku" and "Hiše", were each chosen as song of the week on the radio station Val 202. The debut album V vesolje, ten songs with music and words written by the duo themselves, was released in May 2017 by the label Celinka, with Igor Ilić, Peter Penko and Bort Ross working on the production, and they presented it at the Godibodi festival that year.

In May 2018 they brought out the new song "Nekaj je" and announced a second album, followed by "Umakni se" in November 2018 and "Kositri" in March 2019, the last song they released as a duo. In 2019 Tretji kanu grew into a full band when drummer Žiga Dobravc, guitarist Tomi Perinčič (electric and lap steel guitar) and bassist Dejan Gerbec Radaković joined, all three also members of El Kachon. With them they recorded the second album, Plovemo, released on their own on 18 October 2019.

The third album, Rio in Anu, gathers songs written between 2021 and 2024, again produced by Peter Penko. The band calls it a collection of singles: eight of its nine songs had already come out one by one, arranged in an order that follows the seasons, with "Liščki" as the new song and its own video. "V mestu je vroče", a song with a disco sound, was written during the pandemic. The motto of the record was "less is more".

In 2025 Tretji kanu celebrated ten years. On stage Pavlin and Medle now play with Dejan Slak on keyboards, Žiga Dobravc on drums, Matic Franko on bass and Primož Malenšek on percussion. Anja Pavlin has also written a children's picture book, Prigode polžka Petra.
