About Torul
Torul is a Slovenian synthpop and electropop band from Ljubljana. It is led by its founder Torul Torulsson, the stage name of Borut Bernik, who also records on his own, with the singer Maj Valerij and Borut Dolenec on guitar and synthesizers. Their sound draws on indie pop, electropop, dark wave, IDM and electro, and on stage they have reworked The Cure's "Disintegration" and Tears for Fears' "Mad World".
Torulsson has been making music since the 1990s. In 2003, as Torul W, he released the club singles "Waterproof Theme" and "Discreamer" on the label Low Spirit, and "Start Like This" followed in 2007. The band's debut album, Dark Matters, came out in 2010 on their own Torul Recordings, together with the digital singles "It Was Supposed to Be Fun" and "Saddest Song".
With In Whole (2011) Torul moved to the label Infacted Recordings, which has released all their records since, and singles such as "Try" and "Partially Untamed". In 2012 they played the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig. Tonight We Dream Fiercely (2013) was followed by a European tour as support for the synthpop band Mesh, and in 2014 they appeared at the Amphi Festival in Cologne, to which they returned in 2017; they also played the Blackfield Festival in Gelsenkirchen in 2014.
The Measure came out in 2015. In spring 2016 the singer Jan Jenko left the band and was replaced by Maj Valerij, and Reset followed the same year. The singles "Saviour of Love", "Monday" and "Explain" came out in the following years, and the albums Hikikomori (2019), Teniversia (2020), End Less Dreams (2023) and Superposition (2025) followed, the last of them with "Just Go", "Dancers in the Dark" and "Wish Upon a Star". Their newest single, "And Breathe", came out with a set of remixes.
