About Romana Krajnčan
Romana Krajnčan is a Slovenian singer and dancer, born on 4 November 1964 in Kranj. She is known in Slovenia above all for her own songs for children, and also as a singer of chansons and an entertainer.
She first became known in the first half of the 1980s as the singer of the groups 12. nadstropje and Sibila, the Kranjski Dixieland Band and the ensemble Rž. With 12. nadstropje she sang "Anka kleptomanka" at Slovenska popevka in 1982 and "Manekenka" at Pop delavnica in 1983, where it took third place in the audience vote. She also sang "Naturist" at Melodije morja in sonca in 1983 and "Mlada sva" with the Kranjski Dixieland Band in 1985.
In 1989 she recorded her first children's cassette, Romana in Bolhobend, and over the years became almost a byword for children's songs. She has made 15 cassettes and CDs for children, among them Jupije, Od mravljice do dinozavra, Figelpok, Tuba Luba and Kdo nima hlač?, six musicals and several music and dance shows for children, and songbooks. Poets such as Tone Pavček, Feri Lainšček, Andrej Rozman Roza, Bina Štampe Žmavc and Kajetan Kovič wrote for her. For five years she edited the music pages of the children's magazine Ciciban, and for ten years she hosted a children's programme on Radio Kranj. Her solo work has earned five Zlati petelin awards and a silver and a gold record.
For adults she has recorded three albums of her own chansons, Nekaj je v zraku (2004), Vonj po ljubezni (2008) and Manjka mi, manjka (2011), and sang at the Slovenian chanson festival in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010, with "Harmonika samo za dva" and "Pardon, gospod iz Galastrasse". In 2009 she returned to Slovenska popevka with "Predam se vsa", which placed seventh. She has also starred in the musicals Ljubim te - spremeni se! (2010) and Manjka mi, manjka, written and directed by Gašper Tič.
Her husband is the composer and conductor Lojze Krajnčan, who wrote much of her music; their sons Kristijan and Žigan Krajnčan are also performers.
