About Mladen Burnać

Mladen Burnać is a Croatian singer-songwriter, guitarist, lyricist and composer, born on 18 February 1962 in Knin, who has lived and worked in Zagreb since early childhood. He is best known for gentle pop-rock love ballads, above all "Jer ti ljubiš drugoga", his 2005 duet with Arsen Dedić, which according to the collecting society ZAMP has for years been one of the most-played songs on Croatian radio.

He began in the late 1980s as singer, guitarist and leader of the hard rock band Brze banane from Dubrava in Zagreb, which he founded with his brother Ante, the band's lyricist and manager, while Mladen wrote the music. After some eighty concerts across Yugoslavia, the band was stopped in 1989 by a car crash that killed Ante and their best friend Milan Mišo Čačić; Mladen was the only survivor. In their memory he released the album Brze banane (1990) and the maxi single "Oglasi" (1991), with guest vocals by the then little-known Severina, Ivana Banfić and Sandi Cenov.

The band stopped for good in 1992, and in 1993 he started his solo career with the album Valovi ljubavi. Nešto me vuče (1995), Ne zovi mala policajce (1998), Krv i voda (2000), Jer ti ljubiš drugoga (2005) and the double album Feniks (2009) followed. "Ne zovi mala policajce", a faster song by Željko Bošković and Željko Pavičić that he recorded for the stand-up part of his club shows, was one of the biggest hits in Croatia in 1998.

He has also sung duets with Kemal Monteno ("Takva je sudbina", 2006), the opera singer Ivanka Boljkovac ("Otkucaji sata", 2008), the actress Mila Elegović and the jazz pianist Matija Dedić, and has appeared at 43 music festivals. Between 2007 and 2012 he played 250 Thursdays in a row at the Golden Sun club of Casino Zagreb, singing hits of the 1980s.

His acoustic album Knjiga poezije (2021), on which he sings and recites his own poetry over two guitars with guests such as Matija Dedić and the harpist Doris Karamatić, came with a documentary film of the same name directed by Marko Dimić. He hosted the music show Hana i Mladen Show on Z1 Television from 2014 to 2017 and has been artistic director of the label Only Records since 2018. His recordings are gathered here in one playlist.
