About Madita

Madita is the stage name of Edita Malovčić, an Austrian singer and actress of Bosnian descent. She was born on 21 January 1978 in Vienna and grew up in the city's Penzing district. Her father is the Bosnian folk singer Kemal Malovčić, which is why she has a place among the artists of Bosnia here, although her own music is far from his.

She began studying musicology and took private acting lessons. Her first appearance as a singer came in 2002 on Gran Riserva, the album by the Vienna electronic duo dZihan & Kamien, where she sang on "Drophere" and "Thrill". Vlado Dzihan then produced her self-titled debut album, Madita, released in 2005 on the Couch label. Its mix of funk, jazz and electronica reached third place on the US iTunes electronic album chart and the top ten in several other countries, and the song "Ceylon" was used in an episode of the series Damages in 2007.

Her second album, Too, followed in 2008 and entered the Austrian Ö3 chart at number 47, with the single "Because" at number 60; "Better Brother" was its next single. In 2010 she presented her third album, Pacemaker, at the WUK in Vienna, with the single "ET". Madita Deluxe and Flavours, a set of new songs and remixes, came out in 2012. She also sang "Too Soon" for Coup DeBam and recorded songs with DBN and Axel Wolph.

Acting has run alongside the music from the start. She made her film debut in Nordrand in 1999 and appeared in Berlin Is in Germany, Želary, Four Minutes and The Bone Man, in the series Medicopter 117 and in Tatort, where from 2013 she played a prosecutor in the Hamburg episodes with Til Schweiger. For her role in Quo Vadis, Aida? she won the Austrian Film Award for best supporting actress in 2021, the same year she finished second as the Donaunymphe in The Masked Singer Austria.
